The IEE-ULB is delighted to welcome Ana Guardiola Lohmüller for a research stay at our Institute. Ms. Guardiola Lohmüller graduated in Law in the High Academic Performance Group by the University of Alicante in 2018.
Ms Guardiola Lohmüller was beneficiary of an Erasmus+ Scholarship Uniwersytet Warszawski, Poland (2016-2017). She has a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Alicante (2018-2020). Since 2021, She has a pre-doctoral contract with the University of Alicante under the Research Project of the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities: “Respect for human rights and the foreign activity of Spanish companies: challenges and responses from international law”. She also participates in the Research Project: “Inter-University for European Studies of the University of Alicante: The European Union and The Mediterranean”, within the framework of the Erasmus+ Program and the CoE- Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence action (2020-2023).
She is currently teaching Public International Law and International Organizations in the Law Faculty of University of Alicante while working on her thesis entitled: “The jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights: An analysis from the reform proposals of the CEAS”. She complements her research work with teaching innovation, in 2021 she participated with an oral communication in the “XIX Jornadas de Redes de Investigación en Docencia Universitaria y IV Workshop Internacional de Innovación en Enseñanza Superior y TIC”, as a result of which she published an article in a book entitled “Las visitas a organismos e instituciones como recurso didáctico en las asignaturas de ciencias jurídicas”, Nuevos retos educativos en la enseñanza superior frente al desafío COVID-19. pp. 418 – 426. Octaedro. ISBN 978-84-19023-19-3. Finally, she is currently a member of the Association of International Law Professors (AEPDIRI) and is a member of the Scientific Research Committee of the INNOVUS-JIDUA network.
Her research at the IEE-ULB
Mrs. Guardiola Lohmüller will be at the IEE-ULB from 1st of May 2022 until 31st of July 2022. The specific thesis topic to be addressed during her research stay at the IEE- ULB under the supersision of Professor Martin Deleixhe consists of an analysis of the current Dublin System, essentially the case law review of the CJEU in relation to the regulation establishing the criteria and mechanisms for determining the member state responsible for examining an application for international protection, specifically Regulation (EU) No. 604/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council. This analysis will allow to observe the adequacy and appropriateness of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum in relation to the Court’s interpretation of this Regulation.
How to become a visiting researcher at the IEE-ULB
Each academic year, the Institute for European Studies of the ULB hosts a select group of visiting researchers who work around our 4 research themes. During their stay, they are supervised by one – sometimes two – of the IEE-affiliated professors.
Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications which must contain: an up-to-date CV (max. 2 pages), a research project highlighting the link to one or several of the IEE’s four research themes (max. 2 pages), the proposed research period (max. 12 months), and the name of the IEE-affiliated professor who has agreed to act as the researcher’s supervisor.
